Certain business visitors to Canada may enter Canada to participate in international business activities without a work permit. Permitted activities include attending meetings, seminars and conferences, as well as providing certain contractual after-sales services.
International students with a valid study permit may work while studying in Canada without a work permit. Spouses/Common-law partners of foreign students can also work in Canada while their spouse is studying. The spouse can apply for an Open Work Permit which allows them to work in any job without restriction.
International students who complete a post-secondary education in Canada are eligible to apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit. This permit is an Open Work Permit allowing them to work in ANY job, without restrictions.
Express Entry is a selection system the Canadian Government implemented to expedite the selection and application process for various Economic Immigration Programs. It is predominantly an electronic process with online submissions which allows for quicker processing times, averaging around 6 months.
The Federal Skilled Worker program is part of the Economic Class and this is managed by the Express Entry program. Approximate processing times are currently 6 months once an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is received.
